For a while, we had a praying mantis. We were able to watch it over the course of some weeks and see how its wings developed from tiny flaps to wings that almost reached the end of it.
This mantis has recently disappeared; my sister and I believe it may have been eaten by a larger, browner, less friendly mantis.
Although the previous two creatures are beneficial to the well-being of our garden, we have had some visitors whose effects are damaging. We found a half-eaten tomato on our wall and soon after I glimpsed a rat running away. Soon after, my sister and I caught this little visitor which my sister has since let escape:
